Get into a cooler type of emo rock with Women in Peril

While I was on the hunt for emo rock that was less “Straight, White Man” and stumbled into Women in Peril, accidentally finding a new favourite band. They have the classic emo rock sound that keeps drawing you back. They have the feeling of catharsis you get from singing along that you'd get from emo rock royalty like modern baseball. During our conversation they brought up a few great bands that diverge from the norm, making it clear that when you aren't in the position of power the goal is to lift up your peers.

It should be noted, they recommended some fantastic bands like Pink Shift, Cliffdiver, and Leisure Hour.

It's not just online that they are getting noticed, the band have been playing a number of smaller festivals. This is the ultimate way to find your new favourite band, so I'm certain they found loads of new fans. Because of this bump in festivals they have had a big focus on creating a set that sticks with people as something fun and cohesive.

This focus on creating setlists has been something Chase, the frontman, doesn't want to interfere with songwriting. Naturally creating something cohesive, and more practical to play live is enticing, but they want it to be a more honest process.

Honesty feels like a key element of the genre, so the importance of staying true to themselves is a massive strength of the band. That and the just incredible sound, which we can thank in large part the drummer, Daisy, as well as the rest of the band.

The band is undoubtedly cool, but one thing that I find especially likable about them is their trombone player. Nothing quite adds to a band's charm like an instrument that feels a little out of place. Despite this being unusual, Kalika, their trombone player is actually in two whole rock bands, their other one being Starfruit.
