A few years ago four talented individuals came together by a series of accidents and formed one of the most promising bands in the Scottish music scene, Fright Years. Before they were fully formed Jules, the vocalist, described what they were doing as “It wasn't a band, it was just fun” they were just making music without the level of cohesion you can clearly see now. But when Struan, the drummer, that was it for them.

“We knew when we had us four that was it”

When they make music, they make it with the goal of making something that's theirs. We asked about their inspiration and their answer was far from rehearsed, “We don't tend to talk about other artists, we want to do our own thing. When we do draw inspiration it's usually from songs not bands.” They did tell us that while they dont draw for bands specifically they have a few bands that they all love, The Killers, The Strokes, any proper indie rock band. They like “Big classic indie rock songs.”

Lyrics wise all the credit goes to frontwoman Jules. She told us her process is often inspired by everyday life but she dramatizes it enough to make the songs more interesting.

“I like to go home to my piano and think through a song, and tell a story. Sometimes it's easier and sometimes it takes ages.”

We agree with the band's statement that “It's what Jules is really good at!” The songs are always lyrically stunning.

We were super excited to learn that they are working on their debut EP right now. It's been their sole focus for a little while, “We've taken a break from playing live to focus on writing.” With all this work on their new songs CJ, the bassist told us, “I think they're better than anything we've done.”

With this new release they are planning a total rebirth for the band. They want to launch this EP with a bang, headlining a gig for the first time with their completely new setlist. It's crazy to us that they've never been a headline act before but they told us, “We wanted to save it and do something special.”

The band is making all the right steps towards everyone seeing them as the stars they are, “We love writing, playing, and recording.'' We imagine they are very close to their goal of being a band full time.
