Ai is escaping criticism for its role in a burning planet

In this day and age it's impossible to escape the idea of Ai, and it's almost as impossible to escape Ai itself. Recently Spotify rolled out its yearly Wrapped and people have been quick to point out the shift in quality. While it hasn't been confirmed there's heavy speculation that it's Ai. With major staff cuts at Spotify I'm inclined to agree.

Of course there have been numerous complaints. These complaints have been restricted to the drop in quality and the jobs lost. Of course the jobs being replaced by a worse version of the creatives that previously made Spotify Wrapped is terrible but there's another pretty major issue at hand. Ai has devastating effects on the earth.

More than 5 million people a year use Spotify, many of those people avoid the advertised Ai components of the app but the release of the Wrapped is something of an event. It's one of the big ways Spotify advertises, a unique feature that sets them apart. Without confirmation most wouldn't assume the use of Ai. Without the prior knowledge that there had been major layoffs at Spotify how could they assume. But this puts a sour taste to Spotify.

In October Ai was estimated to use as much energy as a small country. For the wonder product that it's advertised as you would expect it to make a big change, but it has given almost nothing back. With Spotify doing its part to normalise Ai I worry if more isn't done, if we don't all speak up Ai will continue to burn up our resources and our planet.
